IKEA sucks

September 13th, 2006

In Sweden, IKEA is a seller of cheap furniture. In Eastern Europe, they are not afraid to charge higher prices and profile themselves as high quality modern furniture retailer, despite the standard of living and wages in Eastern Europe are much lower than those in Sweden.

Hey, if you want to buy cheap from IKEA, you have to take a car and ride to Germany! Ludicrous.

We (myself and my girlfriend) still like IKEA, mainly because of the furniture design, and shop clerks are friendly, too, but that’s where it stops.

You pay them a visit and wish to purchase, they don’t have half of the things on store. We visited one booth, lady told us:”very rare thing happened, we don’t have this on store, but it shall arrive in 2 days”. That happens. So we go to another booth, to ask for something else. “We only have corpuses, but not the doors. Doors will arrive in 1 month.” Well, we didn’t bother to go to the third specialized booth (aka department), but could have been fun too maybe.

Then we go to their eating place. We take leaflets with us about a piece of furniture we were about to buy. They boast about how everything is on store. Oh well. Nevermind. And they boast about how much of an advantage it is that you can attach some little decore to that furniture on your own, that you can decide, and how big advantage it is that you can finish it yourself. Hell….it’s a decor that EVERYONE decides to attach. They are just too damn thrifty, even where it makes no sense.

Still in the IKEA eating place, I notice the table. Full of scares. You can even make a scar on it with your nail, without even trying! Which reminds me of the table we bought from them. I couldn’t write a note on solid paper with a pencil on it, because it makes a scar on the table surface instantly. Now I am always hoovering around our table on the tiptoe, afraid that it might fall down from big vibration. Also considering I will be drinking and eating off the table - hey we want it stay with us and endure at least one or two years…..

Today, the girlfriend goes to wash our IKEA arm-chair’s sheeting. I’m turning a choleric. We paid extra to get the washable sheeting. First, you almost can’t take it off. Second, you can’t put it back. The case is small (maybe even shrinked after washing), foam rubber bigger, it just doesn’t fit. Our arm-chair now looks funny, as if it had a constipation. It’s now even unique. Designed by IKEA.
While I love IKEA concept, and designs, all I gotta say about ALL the products we bought there (don’t even let me started about the kitchen we acquired from them - because after weeks of usage, I would have to use some rough words), it’s cheap rubbish not worth the price we paid for it. It’s a cheap furniture for those with lower incomes, or for those who are only looking for something that looks nice a year or two (well I can see it will last 10 or 25 years like they promise, just it will only look as s**t), and anyone who pays premium for that (on the markets where they dress as something extra), is a fool. And I was the biggest of the fools.

Czech republic, Hungary and Poland are now fully Paypal supported

September 11th, 2006

As of September 14th, 2006, users from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Thailand will be able to receive funds into their PayPal accounts as well as withdraw them to their local bank accounts. So far, they were only able to use their Paypal accounts for outgoing payments.

The step was already expected for several days, following to a change of certain conditions from Paypal side and previous announcements.

Though for many, this is definitely great news, especially from business point of view (Paypal is most widely used means of payment for online internet businesses), many other countries still have limited access - including Slovak republic, Slovenia, Cyprus, Lithuania and South Africa, to name a few of the more developed ones.

undoing tooth decay (dental caries)

July 5th, 2006

Whatever you might think about this, I just did it and am rather ecstatic about that.
My problems with tooth decay and everything around teeth were long-term, ever since I was young and eating confectionary by bags. Will rather spare you of further history…

Recently problems started again, I started sensing pain in my mouth and an unerring notion that new dentist visit is nearby. Which understandably filled me by terror from head to toe. Head filled with fear, only little thinking power was left at that moment, but enough to let a thought come from back of my unsconscious mind, an intuitive one, one of those magical moments that happen just at the right time. “Try the energy medicine!”.

Oh yeah, energy medicine, one of those things I know a bit about but practice only scarcely. Donna Eden, in her Energy Medicine book, wrote a bit about undoing caries and dealing with teeth problems, and I remembered that! Great start. Read the particular paragraph in the book, and what she suggested was rather easy: smoothing down the meridians.

That didn’t seemed like a lot of effort, but at the same time seemed too little. Somehow I got the feeling that undoing of dental decay and cavities can be done, but I felt I have to put much more effort and expertise into that task. To cut the story shorter, I also employed EFT and certain shamanistic technique. That one I will spare you from, because of many reasons, especially so that I’m not called charlatan, eventhough I couldn’t care less now that it really helped and I didn’t have to go to the dentist!

Here is the short recipe:

Step no 1: Use EFT, emotional freedom therapy. What for? Will demonstrate on my own case: I had many beliefs that were putting me back and were blocking the path to healing. Namely beliefs like: “It is impossible to heal a tooth decay and undo the cavities”, “My teeth are bad and there is nothing I can do”, “I’m a natural bad teeth case and complete loser in that respect.”, “I always had and always will have teeth problems.”, and many more.

Step no. 2: Right after your blockages were cleared, you use smoothing down meridians techniques. Described in Energy Medicine book by Donna Eden. If you did what you were supposed to in step number one, the healing probability will be much much higher.

Step no. 3: Will not go into details here about my shamanistic methods used, but if you know any visualization healing techniques or similar, go for it. Visualize the tooth strong and healthy, send love to them, send gratitude for being healed, whatever works for you, your beliefs and what you have learned. Silva mind control techniques, or general visualization techniques, are which come to mind first, but I’m sure there are many more. That’s the final dot for your caries healing success.

Now…I’m just one of you, not a doctor, not dentist, no such thing. Just a random guy that healed his little tooth decay case, and that is filled with excitement, gratitude and big awe for the way this world works, and looking forward for dental cavity-less life from now on.

Necessary annex: no guarantees, this doesn’t constitute NOT medical suggestion, just a mere description of my story, what and how I did to get help for myself. I still urge you to visit your dentist or any other certified professional that is appropriate to your health case.
Mind does heal, no matter what those who have no clue about how mind works and never tried, say.

sub-zero directory restored

May 26th, 2006

Directory is rather insignificant part of Zerovis, yet it was here from when I took over, so I have chosen to restore it in it’s entirety, including original categories. Just the script changed. And the name, to sub zero directory.
From now on, the strategy changes. It will mainly consist of quality websites supplied by me. Only small part will come from public submissions, and i will maintain rather extremely low approval ratio. Only real websites with real owners behind, will be considered. Perhaps later on, the submission will be made harder or paid for, which will help to sort out the weed from real stuff.

Better submission and approval rules need be written, too. They will be rather strict. Much more strict than months ago, before the database was lost. The resuscitation took time, and I don’t want it to be spoiled by low quality website submissions.

To think over the strategy is very important when it comes to building the directory, when you want to differentiate from thousands of same or similar projects out there. Something I didn’t think of when the original thing started, as I had little experience in the field. Now the strategy is simple, but what is important, THERE IS a strategy, and it will be followed.

yet another “no backup” and “bankrupt hosting” story

May 25th, 2006

Our host went out of business…. It wasn’t that bad, as they probably didn’t charge me for last three months….they were not billing, not sending invoices, so I really can’t complain much… just that they didn’t sent a single notice that they are out of it.
Once the contract with their provider expired, they simply ceased to exist and I lost all files and databases. And oh yeah, there was no backup. This was just a “completely forgotten webhosting account”. Unlike the main account where I have regular backups.
Old story told thousandfold all over the internet. I think I hear the same almost everyday.
To cut it short: backup lessons were learned, reinstall was mightily procrastinated about, but finally zerovis reemerged. Positive side: blogging script was updated, and directory script was changed to a different software.

Google toolbar voting just for fun - serving rednecks and silly SEO’s

June 3rd, 2005
Remember the voting buttons that are part of the Google Toolbar software?Actually, some webmasters are still clicking on them every day while visiting their own sites, in a shortsighted hope that it will help boost their search engine rankings. And you know what one of the ways to have happy users is? Give them the power. Of course you wouldn’t be so silly to give them the actual power, just give them what seems to be the power. That’s what seems to me Google did with their voting buttons. There are many who make their day when they can vote against the pages of their competitor. Many weirdos who spend minutes of delight every day voting against the pages of the proponents of thoughts they disagree with. They feel the power. They are happy. Google is happy. Everyone is happy.

What maybe some long time ago might have been a good idea of validating the search results, but abandoned ever since, why do you think they didn’t remove it from the toolbar already? With voting buttons, Google is making some of the users happier and emotionally more stable (for the lack of better words, but I might ask some psychiatrist for professional comment). Moreover, the toolbar voting buttons are adding to the mystery of the Google toolbar as some kind of magic ap in the eyes of less sane webmasters (those who preach by and pray to pagerank among other things).

Public appeal to Google: please let the voting buttons where they are. Do not remove them. Everytime someone clicks on the voting button, I feel relieved. Everytime they click against my page, I feel relieved they didn’t spend that time improving their own web so that it is better than mine. Everytime some psycho clicks on the voting button to put people down because they have different opinions, I feel relieved they didn’t spend their time doing something much more dangerous.

Fellow webmasters, please vote YES for the voting buttons on the google toolbar :).

Time management discussion forums

May 3rd, 2005
I have never been able to find some decent discussion forum or group about time management in general. Few of specialized exist, including the great one about GTD / Getting things done, on http://www.davidco.com/forum/, but no place to discuss just about anything you can think of when it comes to time management. Finally, Time management forums just started. Only time can tell whether they will take off the ground and become valuable resource and place to meet like-minded people, but I still think this is something I have missed for a long time and hope it will become a lively forum.

Computer Software Source

February 6th, 2005
Trialing a lot of various freeware and shareware programs is an absolute necessity for me. Eventhough I end up using just few real gems frequently, there might be occasional tasks for which a specialized software is needed.Searching for shareware takes a lot of time, so good software resources come handy. I was glad I found the Must Have Software today, which is great source for various computer software in one place. Thanks to its reviews feature, it is now one of the top five software sources that I visit regularly.

Will Czech workers flood Germany or Britain?

January 26th, 2005
Poll carried out in late 2004 by CVVM institute revealed that about 57% of Czech citizens don’t want to work abroad, while 12% (mostly men aged 15-29) would like to work in a foreign country, one fourth of them choosing Germany or Britain as their preferred destination. Are these any grounds to worry that Czech workers will flood EU? Not really. Most of the people interviewed didn’t really do anything to make their dream come true. It wouldn’t be that far for many of them to describe their desires as naive wishes, without any base (real world skill, knowledge of English,..). On a contrary to the poll results, Czechs are well known for their aversion to move from where they live just because of a job. Other barriers for working abroad include strong family ties and insufficient knowledge of foreign languages.
