Poll carried out in late 2004 by CVVM institute revealed that about 57% of Czech citizens don’t want to work abroad, while 12% (mostly men aged 15-29) would like to work in a foreign country, one fourth of them choosing Germany or Britain as their preferred destination. Are these any grounds to worry that Czech workers will flood EU? Not really. Most of the people interviewed didn’t really do anything to make their dream come true. It wouldn’t be that far for many of them to describe their desires as naive wishes, without any base (real world skill, knowledge of English,..). On a contrary to the poll results, Czechs are well known for their aversion to move from where they live just because of a job. Other barriers for working abroad include strong family ties and insufficient knowledge of foreign languages.
